Intelligent life forms

In the immediate future, our food supply is going to be a major concern. With an increase in food genetic modifications, scarcity and high cost of chemical free organics, and pollution generated by long distance food transportation, growing our own food in our own homes is a concept worth looking into.

For urban dwellers, space limitations and shapes of cityscapes make it extremely challenging to grow food in urban habitats. My thesis explores and creates ways to assist and enhance the practice of urban farming. With the use of design and technology, I hope to make growing food in an urban environment easier and more feasible.

Arnold Chu moved to New York from Hong Kong during his teen years. Passionate about technology, Arnold received his Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from NYU Polytechnic and went on to working in the computer industry for over a decade. Bored with the routine of an engineer, he left the industry to experience life outside of the laboratory. Wandering in the big big world stirred his desire to create and inspired him to become an industrial designer. Arnold is fascinated with the idea of injecting life and intelligence to our surrounding through the use of science and technology.
